Overview
RVT-503 (also known as DMVT-503) is an investigational small molecule inhibitor of diacylglycerol O-acyltransferase 1 (DGAT1) that was developed by Dermavant Sciences, a subsidiary of Roivant Sciences. The drug was designed as a topical treatment for acne vulgaris, targeting the enzymatic pathway responsible for the final step of triglyceride synthesis. By inhibiting DGAT1 in the skin, RVT-503 aimed to reduce sebum production and modify its composition, thereby addressing one of the primary drivers of acne pathogenesis. In 2022, Roivant Sciences announced the discontinuation of the RVT-503 program as part of a strategic pipeline reprioritization to focus resources on the commercial launch of tapinarof (VTAMA) and other late-stage clinical assets.
