RVV-IL-2 is a recombinant vaccinia virus (rVV) engineered to encode or deliver interleukin-2 (IL-2), intended to augment antitumor immune responses by combining the immunogenic properties of a viral vector with the immunostimulatory effects of IL-2. The mechanism involves both direct presentation of tumor-associated antigens (TAAs) via the viral vector and immune cell expansion/activation by IL-2, with demonstrated effects in experimental cancer models of reducing metastases and prolonging survival when administered with tumor antigen-expressing rVV. IL-2 functions as a cytokine to stimulate T cell and natural killer cell proliferation and activation. This combination strategy is used primarily in cancer immunotherapy research to enhance cytotoxic lymphocyte responses, and may be constructed for gene therapy approaches or as an adjuvant to cancer vaccines[1][6].
