Drug intelligence / Profile preview
**Ryjusea** is a preservative-free, single-use ophthalmic solution containing **0.025% atropine sulfate hydrate**, approved in Japan as the first treatment to slow myopia progression in pediatric patients aged 5-15 years. Developed jointly by **Santen** and the **Singapore Eye Research Institute (SERI)**, it is administered once daily before bedtime and demonstrates superior efficacy over placebo in reducing spherical equivalent progression and axial length elongation over 24 months in phase II/III trials, with sustained effects up to three years. The formulation enhances posterior sclera distribution while minimizing off-target effects like mydriasis. Common side effects include photophobia (9%). It is sold without national health insurance coverage in Japan and launched April 2025.[2][3][4][7]
