Overview

Rytvela is a novel peptide-based therapeutic developed by Maternica Therapeutics for the prevention and treatment of inflammation-driven preterm birth. It acts as a small, non-competitive allosteric antagonist of the interleukin-1 (IL-1) receptor. Unlike traditional IL-1 blockers, rytvela selectively inhibits specific signaling pathways, such as the mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) pathway, while preserving the NF-κB pathway, which is essential for immune vigilance. Preclinical studies in mice and sheep have demonstrated its ability to extend gestation, improve neonatal survival, and protect fetal organs (lungs, brain, gastrointestinal tract, and eyes) from inflammatory injury. The drug is currently in preclinical development with plans for IND submission.
