Sérum Antiscorpionique is an equine-derived antivenom developed and manufactured by the Pasteur Institute of Algeria (Institut Pasteur d'Algérie). It is specifically indicated for the treatment of scorpion envenomation, primarily targeting the venom of the highly venomous *Androctonus australis hector* scorpion, which is prevalent in the Saharan and semi-arid regions of Algeria. The antivenom consists of purified F(ab')2 immunoglobulin fragments obtained from the plasma of horses immunized with the scorpion venom. Its mechanism of action involves the specific binding and neutralization of circulating venom neurotoxins, thereby preventing them from interacting with voltage-gated sodium channels and other physiological targets. This neutralization facilitates the clearance of the toxins and mitigates the life-threatening systemic effects of the sting, such as cardiovascular and respiratory failure.
