Overview

S-(-)-FPFS-1182 is a small molecule analogue of R-(-)-BPAP (1-(benzofuran-2-yl)-2-propylaminopentane), belonging to a class of compounds known as catecholaminergic and serotonergic enhancers (CaeSEs). Developed by Fujimoto Pharmaceutical, these compounds are designed to enhance the impulse-evoked release of neurotransmitters such as dopamine and serotonin, rather than acting as monoamine oxidase inhibitors or direct releasing agents. S-(-)-FPFS-1182 has been investigated for its neuroprotective properties, specifically its ability to stabilize mitochondrial membrane potential and induce the expression of the anti-apoptotic protein Bcl-2. In research settings, it is often compared to its R-enantiomer, as the R-forms of this chemical series typically demonstrate significantly higher potency in preventing apoptosis and maintaining mitochondrial integrity in models of neurodegenerative diseases like Parkinson's disease.
