Overview

S-001000 is a small molecule inhibitor of the urate transporter 1 (URAT1) being developed by Sato Pharmaceutical for the treatment of hyperuricemia and gout. By selectively blocking URAT1 (encoded by the SLC22A12 gene) in the proximal tubules of the kidney, the drug inhibits the reabsorption of filtered uric acid, thereby promoting its excretion in the urine and reducing serum uric acid levels. This mechanism is intended to manage chronic hyperuricemia and prevent the deposition of monosodium urate crystals that lead to gout flares. S-001000 has completed Phase I safety and pharmacokinetic studies in healthy volunteers and is currently undergoing Phase II clinical evaluation in Japan to assess its efficacy and optimal dosing in patients with hyperuricemia.
