Drug intelligence / Profile preview
S-268023 is a recombinant protein subunit vaccine candidate developed by Shionogi & Co., Ltd., specifically designed to target the SARS-CoV-2 Omicron BA.1 variant. The vaccine consists of a purified, stabilized version of the viral spike protein produced using a baculovirus expression system in insect cells. It is intended for use as a booster dose to provide enhanced protection against the Omicron variant, which exhibits significant mutations in the spike protein compared to the ancestral strain. Clinical development reached Phase 3, where its immunogenicity and safety were evaluated in comparison to existing mRNA-based booster vaccines.
