Drug intelligence / Profile preview
S-268024 is an intranasal COVID-19 vaccine candidate developed by Shionogi & Co., Ltd. Unlike traditional intramuscular vaccines, S-268024 is designed to be administered via the nasal passage to induce mucosal immunity (IgA) in the upper respiratory tract, which is the primary entry point for the SARS-CoV-2 virus, in addition to systemic immunity (IgG). It is a recombinant protein subunit vaccine that targets the spike protein of the virus. By stimulating local immunity in the nose and throat, it aims to not only prevent severe disease but also potentially reduce viral transmission more effectively than systemic vaccines.
