Overview

S-40503 is an investigational nonsteroidal selective androgen receptor modulator (SARM) developed by Kaken Pharmaceuticals for the treatment of osteoporosis. It exhibits high selectivity for the androgen receptor with nanomolar affinity and demonstrates tissue-specific anabolic effects—primarily increasing bone mineral density and biomechanical strength in animal models without significant stimulation of muscle mass or prostate gland enlargement. This selectivity suggests a reduced risk of virilizing side effects compared to traditional androgens or anabolic steroids. The compound has shown direct bone formation activity in preclinical studies and may serve as a prototype for further development of SARMs with improved pharmacokinetic properties[1][2][5].
