S-8117 is a tamper-resistant, controlled-release (CR) oral formulation of **oxycodone hydrochloride** developed by **Shionogi** for the management of chronic pain. As a semi-synthetic opioid, oxycodone acts primarily as an agonist at the **mu-opioid receptor**, providing potent analgesia by modulating pain perception in the central nervous system. The S-8117 formulation incorporates specific tamper-resistant (OTR) features designed to prevent common methods of abuse, such as crushing, dissolving, or chewing the tablets for rapid drug release.
