S-benzylglutathione

S-benzylglutathione is a synthetic tripeptide derivative of glutathione in which the sulfhydryl group of the cysteine residue is substituted with a benzyl group. It belongs to the class of oligopeptides and has been studied primarily as an experimental compound. S-benzylglutathione acts as an analog and inhibitor of glutathione in biochemical assays and has been used to probe isozyme-specific inhibition of glutathione-S-transferase (GST), an enzyme involved in detoxification processes. Its selectivity for different GST isozymes can be modulated by modifications on its aromatic ring, making it useful for studying GST function and specificity[1][3]. There are no approved therapeutic indications or clinical uses for this compound.
