It is currently in preclinical development for the treatment of Antiphospholipid Syndrome (APS), an autoimmune condition characterized by the presence of antiphospholipid antibodies that increase the risk of blood clots and pregnancy complications. By isolating the S-enantiomer, the developer aims to potentially improve the safety and efficacy profile of the drug compared to the standard racemic hydroxychloroquine, which is widely used for systemic lupus erythematosus and rheumatoid arthritis.
