Overview

GVX171 is a small molecule enantiomer of hydroxychloroquine, specifically the (S)-isomer, being developed by Genovate Biotechnology. It is currently in preclinical development for the treatment of Antiphospholipid Syndrome (APS), an autoimmune condition characterized by the presence of antiphospholipid antibodies that increase the risk of blood clots and pregnancy complications. By isolating the S-enantiomer, the developer aims to potentially improve the safety and efficacy profile of the drug compared to the standard racemic hydroxychloroquine, which is widely used for systemic lupus erythematosus and rheumatoid arthritis. Hydroxychloroquine is known to modulate the immune system by interfering with lysosomal activity and toll-like receptor signaling.
