Drug intelligence / Profile preview
s-methylone is the (S)-enantiomer of methylone, a synthetic cathinone and structural analog of MDMA. Developed by Tactogen, it is being investigated as a next-generation empathogen for the treatment of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Mechanistically, it acts as a monoamine releasing agent and reuptake inhibitor, increasing the synaptic concentrations of serotonin, norepinephrine, and dopamine. By utilizing the (S)-enantiomer specifically, the developer aims to optimize the therapeutic window, potentially offering a shorter duration of action and a more favorable side-effect profile compared to racemic MDMA or methylone. It is intended for use in conjunction with psychotherapy to facilitate emotional processing and prosocial effects.
