s-oxprenolol

S-oxprenolol (ACM-002) is the S-enantiomer of the non-selective beta-adrenergic receptor antagonist oxprenolol. It is being developed by Actimed Therapeutics for the treatment of muscle wasting (cachexia) associated with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) and other chronic conditions. S-oxprenolol is designed to address the multifactorial nature of cachexia by combining beta-blocking activity with potential anabolic and anti-catabolic effects. By antagonizing beta-1 and beta-2 adrenergic receptors, it aims to reduce the high metabolic rate and systemic inflammation that drive muscle loss. Actimed has licensed the global rights for S-oxprenolol to Faraday Pharmaceuticals for all indications except ALS, for which Actimed retains development rights and has received US Orphan Drug Designation.
