Drug intelligence / Profile preview
S-pindolol benzoate is the single-enantiomer (S-form) of pindolol formulated as a benzoate salt. It is a small molecule beta-blocker with unique pro-anabolic and anti-catabolic properties. S-pindolol acts primarily as a non-selective beta-adrenoceptor antagonist with partial agonist activity at the beta2-adrenoceptor and additional central effects via serotonin receptors. This pharmacological profile enables it to reduce catabolism through nonselective β-blockade, increase anabolism via partial β2 receptor agonism, and potentially improve appetite and reduce fatigue through central 5-hydroxytryptamine/serotonin receptor activity[9][3][5]. S-pindolol benzoate has demonstrated efficacy in reversing weight loss and improving fat-free mass in patients with cancer cachexia in clinical trials[9][6]. It is being developed by Actimed Therapeutics for muscle wasting disorders such as cancer cachexia and for muscle preservation during or after GLP-1 receptor agonist therapy in obesity[3][7].
