S-Selanyl Cysteine is an experimental small molecule and a selenium-containing amino acid derivative structurally related to cysteine. It features a selenyl-sulfide bond (Se–S) between selenium and sulfur atoms within the cysteine backbone. The compound has been studied primarily in vitro as a potent substrate for selenocysteine lyase, an enzyme that mobilizes selenium from L-selenocysteine; however, its physiological or pharmacological roles remain unclear[1][4]. There are no approved indications or clinical uses for this compound as of now. Its molecular formula is C3H7NO2SSe with a molecular weight of approximately 200.94 g/mol[1][3][8].
