S-TRAIL is a bioengineered recombinant protein-based drug candidate derived from tumor necrosis factor-related apoptosis-inducing ligand (TRAIL), designed to selectively induce apoptosis in cancer cells via engagement of death receptors, especially DR4 and DR5 (also called TRAIL-R1 and TRAIL-R2). S-TRAIL is a modified or engineered version of soluble TRAIL, often optimized to increase therapeutic potency and/or stability, such as in fusion constructs or nanoparticle delivery systems for anticancer therapy. TRAIL-based therapeutics are explored due to their capacity to kill malignant cells while sparing normal tissue. S-TRAIL is under preclinical and early clinical investigation as a targeted therapy for various cancers, often in efforts to overcome limitations such as short in vivo half-life or tumor resistance seen with first-generation TRAIL agents[9][3].
