Overview

S005190 is a small molecule agonist of the G protein-coupled receptor 119 (GPR119) developed by Servier for the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus. GPR119 is a receptor primarily expressed in pancreatic beta cells and intestinal enteroendocrine cells. Its activation stimulates the glucose-dependent secretion of insulin and incretin hormones, such as glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) and glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide (GIP), which collectively improve glycemic control without the inherent risk of hypoglycemia. Servier advanced S005190 into Phase 1 and Phase 2 clinical trials to evaluate its safety, tolerability, and pharmacodynamic effects in both healthy volunteers and patients with type 2 diabetes. However, the development program appears to have been discontinued, as no clinical updates or further trial initiations have been reported since approximately 2013.
