Drug intelligence / Profile preview
S100Apt-EVs are preclinical engineered extracellular vesicles (EVs) derived from adipose-derived stem cells (ASCs) and functionalized with an S100 protein aptamer (S100Apt) chemically grafted onto their surface. Developed by researchers at Shanghai Jiao Tong University, these neuro-targeted vesicles are designed to specifically target Schwann cells to promote neuroregeneration and prevent postoperative fibrosis. In preclinical models, S100Apt-EVs are delivered via an anionic hyaluronic acid-based (HAD) hydrogel (forming the 'HAD-AptEV' hydrogel or 'shield-spear' biological patch) for suture-free bladder reconstruction and nerve repair. Upon targeting Schwann cells, S100Apt-EVs stimulate the secretion of brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF), which downregulates the pro-fibrotic TGF-β/Smad signaling pathway and inhibits lysyl oxidase (LOX)-mediated matrix crosslinking, thereby enabling functional, fibrosis-free tissue regeneration.
