Overview

S179D prolactin (S179D PRL) is a research-stage recombinant protein and a pseudophosphorylated molecular mimic of naturally phosphorylated human prolactin. It acts as a selective prolactin receptor modulator (SPRM) that targets the prolactin receptor (PRLR). Unlike unmodified prolactin, S179D prolactin triggers a distinct intracellular signaling cascade that leads to cell differentiation, cell-cycle arrest, or apoptosis depending on the cellular context. It functions as an antagonist of unmodified prolactin's growth-promoting effects and exhibits antiangiogenic and anti-inflammatory properties. S179D prolactin has been investigated primarily in academic settings for the potential treatment of prostate cancer, breast cancer, and angioproliferative disorders.
