Drug intelligence / Profile preview
S19 IPV is an inactivated poliovirus vaccine (IPV) being developed by Bharat Biotech for the prevention of poliomyelitis. The vaccine is formulated using the S19 virus strain, which is a hyper-attenuated, genetically stabilized derivative of the Sabin strain. The S19 strain is designed to be highly restricted in its ability to replicate at human body temperature and has a significantly reduced risk of reverting to a neurovirulent form during manufacturing. This allows the vaccine to be produced under lower biosafety containment levels (such as BSL-2) compared to conventional IPVs that require high-containment facilities. S19 IPV is currently in preclinical development.
