S230815-2 is a small molecule inhibitor of the KCNT1 (sodium-activated potassium channel, also known as Slack) channel, currently under development by Servier. It is being investigated for the treatment of KCNT1-related developmental and epileptic encephalopathy (KCNT1-DEE) and epilepsy of infancy with migrating focal seizures (EIMFS). These rare and severe forms of epilepsy are primarily caused by gain-of-function mutations in the KCNT1 gene, which lead to increased potassium currents and subsequent neuronal hyperexcitability. S230815-2 is designed to selectively inhibit these overactive channels to restore normal electrophysiological activity, thereby potentially reducing seizure burden and improving developmental outcomes in pediatric patients.
