Overview

S3705 is a **small molecule inhibitor** developed by Aventis that selectively inhibits the Na+-dependent Cl−/HCO3− exchanger (NCBE), which is involved in intracellular pH regulation. In preclinical studies, S3705 was shown to lower intracellular pH and exert cytostatic effects (inhibit cell proliferation) on tumor cells under acidic conditions similar to those in the microenvironment of solid tumors. Its mechanism is distinct from other Na+/H+ or Cl−/HCO3− exchange inhibitors that have previously shown toxicity or low specificity. S3705 thus serves as a research tool for targeting tumor acidity and potentially sensitizing tumor cells to chemotherapy, but as of the available evidence, it has not progressed to clinical use or commercialization as a pharmaceutical agent[1][2].
