Overview
The S8 Sinus Implant is referenced as a drug-eluting sinus implant designed to maintain patency of the sinus ostia following endoscopic sinus surgery. These types of implants are typically used in patients with chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyps (CRSwNP) or chronic sinusitis who have undergone prior surgical intervention and are at risk for recurrent obstruction due to inflammation, scarring, or polyp regrowth. The implant is generally made from bioabsorbable polymers and releases a corticosteroid (commonly mometasone furoate) locally over an extended period (up to 90 days), reducing local inflammation, edema, and the need for further surgical interventions[1][5][7]. The device is placed by a physician under endoscopic visualization and expands radially to conform to the surgically enlarged ostium[5]. It may be removed after a set period or left in place if bioabsorbable.
