Drug intelligence / Profile preview
SA-00007 is a novel small molecule antagonist of succinyl-CoA:3-ketoacid-CoA transferase (SCOT, encoded by the OXCT1 gene), the rate-limiting enzyme for ketone body oxidation. Identified through in silico molecular modeling, SA-00007 inhibits SCOT activity and subsequently reduces ketone body oxidation in skeletal muscle. In preclinical models of diet-induced obesity, treatment with SA-00007 has been shown to improve glucose tolerance and insulin sensitivity, suggesting that inhibiting skeletal muscle ketone body oxidation may enhance glucose oxidation and serve as a novel therapeutic strategy for obesity-induced dysglycemia and type 2 diabetes.
