Overview

SAA1-inhibitory peptide is a synthetic peptide designed to inhibit the pro-inflammatory activity of Serum Amyloid A1 (SAA1). Research conducted at Peking University People’s Hospital indicates that SAA1 is enriched in salivary exosomes of patients with active inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and acts as a key effector driving intestinal inflammation. The peptide works by blocking SAA1-mediated macrophage polarization toward the M1 phenotype via the TLR4–NF-κB/JNK signaling pathway and preventing the subsequent induction of pathogenic Th17 cell differentiation through the STAT3 pathway. In preclinical models of DSS-induced colitis, the SAA1-inhibitory peptide effectively attenuated intestinal inflammation, suggesting its potential as a therapeutic candidate for IBD.
