SAAM-1 vaccine is an experimental senolytic vaccine designed to target and eliminate senescent cells by identifying Senescence-associated adhesion molecule 1 (SAAM-1) as a cell-surface antigen. SAAM-1 expression increases during cellular senescence in endothelial cells and is associated with the development of cardiovascular diseases. Developed by researchers at Juntendo University and Osaka University, the vaccine aims to alleviate age-related cardiovascular pathologies, including pressure overload-induced heart failure and atherosclerosis. In preclinical mouse models, the vaccine has demonstrated the ability to suppress SAAM-1 expression, improve systolic function, reduce cardiac fibrosis, and decrease inflammatory markers in the aorta.
