Overview

SAB-142 is a first-in-class, fully human polyclonal anti-thymocyte immunoglobulin developed as a disease-modifying therapy to delay the onset and progression of type 1 diabetes. Its mechanism of action is analogous to rabbit anti-thymocyte globulin (ATG), directly targeting multiple immune cells involved in the destruction of pancreatic beta cells. By modulating the immune response, SAB-142 aims to preserve insulin-producing beta cells and slow disease progression. Unlike animal-derived ATG, SAB-142’s fully human composition allows for safe, repeated dosing without inducing serum sickness or anti-drug antibodies. The drug has demonstrated favorable safety and sustained immunomodulation in Phase 1 clinical trials[1][2][3][4][5][6][7][8].
