Drug intelligence / Profile preview
SAB-176 is a fully human, broadly neutralizing polyclonal immunoglobulin antibody therapeutic developed to prevent or reduce severe outcomes of Type A and Type B influenza infection, particularly in high-risk populations such as the immunocompromised. It is produced using the proprietary DiversitAb platform from SAB Biotherapeutics, which enables rapid and scalable production of highly potent, fully human polyclonal IgG antibodies without the need for human donors. The therapy targets multiple epitopes on influenza viruses (multi-target/multi-epitope binding), providing broad cross-protection against both seasonal and pandemic strains—including those not specifically targeted during manufacturing—and reducing the risk of resistance development. Clinical studies have shown that SAB-176 significantly reduces viral load and clinical symptoms compared to placebo and is well-tolerated with a long half-life. The drug has received FDA Breakthrough Therapy and Fast Track designations[2][3][5][6][7][8].
