Overview

SAB-183 is a fully-human polyclonal immunoglobulin (IgG) antibody therapeutic developed by SAB Biotherapeutics for the treatment and prevention of pneumonic plague caused by *Yersinia pestis*. The drug is produced using the company's proprietary Transchromosomic (Tc) bovine platform, which utilizes genetically engineered cattle to generate high titers of fully-human antibodies without the need for human donors. SAB-183 targets *Y. pestis*, a significant biothreat pathogen, and has demonstrated the ability to enhance bacterial opsonization and phagocytosis in vitro. In preclinical studies conducted in collaboration with the U.S. Army Medical Research Institute of Infectious Diseases (USAMRIID), SAB-183 provided significant protection in animal models of lethal respiratory plague. The therapeutic is intended to address the need for rapid passive immunity and to provide a countermeasure against drug-resistant isolates of the pathogen.
