Overview

SAB-185 is a fully human polyclonal immunoglobulin G (IgG1) antibody therapeutic candidate developed for the treatment of COVID-19. It is derived from the plasma of transchromosomic bovines that have been genetically engineered to carry a human artificial chromosome encoding the full repertoire of human immunoglobulin genes. These animals are hyperimmunized with DNA and recombinant protein vaccines expressing the SARS-CoV-2 spike (S) protein, resulting in plasma rich in high-potency, multi-epitope binding, fully human antibodies targeting SARS-CoV-2. The mechanism of action involves neutralization of SARS-CoV-2 by binding to multiple epitopes on its spike protein, thereby inhibiting viral entry into host cells and potentially engaging other immune effector functions. Clinical trials have demonstrated that SAB-185 retains activity against various variants of concern, including Omicron[1][3][4][5].
