Overview

SAB-301 is a fully human polyclonal immunoglobulin G (IgG) antibody therapeutic developed using the DiversitAb platform, which utilizes transchromosomic cattle genetically engineered to produce large quantities of human antibodies in response to specific antigens. The drug was designed as a potential treatment for Middle East respiratory syndrome coronavirus (MERS-CoV) infection. Its mechanism of action is immunomodulation and viral neutralization through the provision of exogenous, fully human polyclonal IgG antibodies that target MERS-CoV. In phase 1 clinical trials, SAB-301 demonstrated safety and tolerability in healthy volunteers, with pharmacokinetic properties similar to other human antibodies and evidence of sustained viral neutralization activity[1][3][4][5]. The development was led by SAB BIO (now called SAB BIO), with support from the National Institutes of Health.
