Sabin-inactivated polio vaccine (sIPV) is an inactivated vaccine derived from Sabin poliovirus strains, developed by Univercells in collaboration with Batavia Biosciences. Unlike the traditional Salk-IPV which uses wild-type poliovirus, sIPV utilizes attenuated Sabin strains, which are safer to manufacture in terms of biosafety risks. The development of this specific candidate is centered around the Nevoline manufacturing platform, a high-intensity, low-cost bioproduction system that utilizes a scale-X fixed-bed bioreactor. This technology, supported by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, is designed to drastically reduce the manufacturing footprint and cost of goods, enabling localized, demand-driven production in low- and middle-income countries to support the Global Polio Eradication Initiative (GPEI).
