The Sabin Inactivated Poliovirus Vaccine (sIPV) is a trivalent vaccine developed for the prevention of poliomyelitis. Unlike the traditional Salk IPV which utilizes wild-type poliovirus strains, this vaccine is produced using attenuated Sabin strains of poliovirus types 1, 2, and 3. These strains are grown on Vero cells, inactivated, and formulated into a liquid injection. The use of Sabin strains significantly reduces the biosafety risks associated with the manufacturing process. The vaccine is designed to induce neutralizing antibodies against all three poliovirus serotypes. It was developed through collaborations involving the Jiangsu Province Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Sinovac Biotech, and Minhai Biotech. Clinical trials in China have demonstrated that the vaccine possesses a favorable safety profile and high immunogenicity in infants, children, and adults.
