Drug intelligence / Profile preview
This is a sequential combination immunization regimen consisting of one dose of Sabin strain inactivated poliovirus vaccine (Sabin-IPV) followed by two doses of bivalent oral poliovirus vaccine (bOPV). The Sabin-IPV is an inactivated, injectable polio vaccine derived from attenuated (Sabin) strains of all three serotypes of poliovirus. It induces systemic immunity and helps prevent paralytic disease. The bOPV is a live, attenuated, oral polio vaccine containing only types 1 and 3 Sabin strains; it induces strong mucosal immunity in the gut to interrupt virus transmission. This sequential schedule aims to maximize both individual protection against paralysis and community protection by reducing viral shedding and transmission[1][2][3].
