This refers to the concomitant administration of two separate inactivated vaccines developed by the Institute of Medical Biology, Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences (IMBCAMS): the Sabin-strain-based inactivated poliovirus vaccine (sIPV) and the inactivated hepatitis A vaccine (HepA-I). The sIPV is a trivalent vaccine containing inactivated Sabin strains of poliovirus types 1, 2, and 3, produced in Vero cells. It was developed as a safer alternative to the oral poliovirus vaccine (OPV) to eliminate the risk of vaccine-associated paralytic poliomyelitis and vaccine-derived polioviruses. The inactivated hepatitis A vaccine is designed to provide active immunity against the hepatitis A virus, typically utilizing the Lv 8 strain. A Phase IV clinical trial (NCT04043390) was conducted to evaluate the safety and immunogenicity of administering these two vaccines simultaneously in children at 18 months of age, aiming to optimize pediatric vaccination schedules in China by reducing the number of clinical visits.
