Sabin strain inactivated poliovirus vaccine (sIPV) is a trivalent, inactivated polio vaccine produced from attenuated Sabin strains of poliovirus types 1, 2, and 3 grown on Vero cells. The virus is harvested, purified, and inactivated with formaldehyde to ensure it cannot cause disease. sIPV induces protective antibodies against all three serotypes of poliovirus and is used for the prevention of poliomyelitis. It has demonstrated immunogenicity and safety profiles non-inferior to conventional wild-strain IPV (wIPV). Unlike oral polio vaccines containing live virus, sIPV carries no risk of vaccine-derived or vaccine-associated paralytic polio. It is primarily indicated for routine immunization of infants and children starting at two months old[1][2][5][6][7].
