The Sabin-strain inactivated poliovirus vaccine (sIPV) and hepatitis A inactivated vaccine (HepA) combination is a multivalent vaccine candidate designed to provide simultaneous protection against poliomyelitis and hepatitis A. The sIPV component utilizes attenuated Sabin strains (Types 1, 2, and 3) rather than the wild-type strains used in traditional Salk IPV, which enhances biosafety during the manufacturing process by reducing the risk of environmental reintroduction of virulent poliovirus. The hepatitis A component consists of inactivated hepatitis A virus (HAV), typically cultured in human diploid cells. This combination vaccine aims to simplify pediatric immunization schedules and improve compliance by reducing the number of required injections. Major development programs for this combination are led by Chinese biopharmaceutical companies, including Sinovac Biotech and Beijing Minhai Biotechnology (a subsidiary of Kangtai Biological), with clinical trials demonstrating immunogenicity and safety profiles comparable to the individual vaccines.
