SABRAC is a synthetic small-molecule inhibitor of acid ceramidase (AC), designed as a ceramide-mimetic bromoacetamide with a long-chain sphingoid-like backbone that covalently and irreversibly inactivates AC by alkylating a catalytic cysteine residue in the enzyme’s active site.[1][3][7][9] By blocking hydrolysis of ceramide to sphingosine, SABRAC elevates intracellular ceramide levels and shifts sphingolipid metabolism toward pro-apoptotic signaling, which has been exploited in preclinical models of metastatic prostate cancer and other tumors to induce apoptosis and suppress tumor growth.[7] It is supplied as a high-purity research reagent (CAS 886212-98-2) for in vitro and in vivo experimental use and is not approved for human or veterinary therapeutic use.[1][3][12]
