Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Saccharomyces boulardii + zinc is a combination therapy investigated for the treatment of acute watery diarrhea in pediatric patients. Saccharomyces boulardii is a non-pathogenic, transient yeast probiotic that helps restore the intestinal microflora, inhibits the growth of enteric pathogens, and neutralizes bacterial toxins. Zinc is an essential trace element that reduces the duration and severity of diarrhea by supporting intestinal mucosal repair, improving water and electrolyte absorption, and enhancing the local immune response. The combination is specifically used to improve clinical outcomes, such as reducing the time to resolution of diarrhea and vomiting, in children under five years of age.
