Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Saccharomyces cerevisiae I-3856 is a proprietary, patented probiotic yeast strain developed by Lesaffre and marketed through its Gnosis by Lesaffre business unit. Registered in the French National Collection of Cultures of Microorganisms (CNCM), this strain is clinically studied for the management of irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) symptoms, particularly constipation-predominant IBS (IBS-C), where it helps alleviate abdominal pain and bloating. It is also marketed under the brand Quatreflora for supporting vaginal health, including the prevention and management of vaginal infections like vulvovaginal candidiasis and bacterial vaginosis. S. cerevisiae I-3856 works through multiple mechanisms, including modulating the gut microbiota, increasing short-chain fatty acid production, exerting anti-inflammatory effects, and co-aggregating with pathogens like Candida albicans to inhibit their adherence to epithelial cells.
