Overview

Saccharomyces cerevisiae type D extract is an active ingredient in the product Actisoufre, which is developed by Laboratoires Grimberg. [4, 6] Actisoufre is a combination product that also contains sodium monosulfide and is indicated for treating chronic inflammatory conditions of the upper respiratory tract, such as chronic rhinitis and rhinopharyngitis. [5, 10, 11, 15] A clinical trial is also assessing the product for acute rhinitis, rhinopharyngitis, and rhinosinusitis. The product is available as a solution for nasal or oral spray, and as a suspension for oral or nasal administration. [2, 9] The yeast extract component is intended to supply vitamins and trace elements to contribute to the overall therapeutic effect. [3, 5, 10] While the exact mechanism has not been fully detailed, Saccharomyces cerevisiae is generally known to have immunomodulatory and anti-inflammatory properties. [14, 16]
