Drug intelligence / Profile preview
sACE2-ABD is a bioengineered, truncated recombinant soluble human angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 (sACE2) protein fused with a 5-kDa albumin-binding domain (ABD). Developed by researchers at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine, this molecule is designed to pass the glomerular filtration barrier and exhibits an extended in vivo half-life (up to 96 hours) compared to native sACE2. It acts as a decoy receptor to neutralize SARS-CoV-2 by binding to its spike protein, and enzymatically degrades angiotensin II (Ang II) to angiotensin (1-7). It is being investigated for the treatment of COVID-19 and scleroderma kidney (SK) crisis (by reducing kidney Ang II levels and preventing renal fibrosis).
