Overview

Sacrosidase is an oral enzyme replacement therapy used to treat genetically determined sucrase deficiency, specifically in patients with congenital sucrase-isomaltase deficiency (CSID)[1][2][3][4][5]. It is a yeast-derived enzyme (from Saccharomyces cerevisiae) with the chemical name β,D-fructofuranoside fructohydrolase[6][7]. Sacrosidase hydrolyzes sucrose into glucose and fructose, compensating for the lack of endogenous sucrase activity in affected individuals[4][8]. Unlike human intestinal sucrase-isomaltase, it does not act on oligosaccharides containing 1,6 glucosyl bonds[4][8]. The drug is available as an oral solution and marketed under the brand name Sucraid. It provides symptom relief for gastrointestinal manifestations associated with CSID but does not cure the underlying genetic condition[3].
