Safflower total flavonoids (STF) is an investigational botanical drug substance derived from the dried florets of *Carthamus tinctorius* L. (safflower). Developed by the Peking University School of Pharmaceutical Sciences, STF is a purified mixture of flavonoids, primarily quinochalcone C-glycosides such as hydroxysafflor yellow A (HSYA). It is being evaluated for the treatment of ischemic heart failure and other cardiovascular conditions. The therapeutic efficacy of STF is attributed to its multi-target profile, which includes potent antioxidant activity, anti-inflammatory effects, and the ability to inhibit cardiomyocyte apoptosis. Mechanistically, STF has been shown to activate the PI3K/Akt and Nrf2/HO-1 signaling pathways, thereby protecting the myocardium from ischemia-reperfusion injury and improving cardiac function. It is typically formulated as a lyophilized powder for intravenous injection.
