Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Safoof e Muhazzil is a classical polyherbal Unani formulation traditionally indicated for the management of obesity (Muhazzil) and hyperlipidemia. The formulation typically consists of a blend of natural ingredients, including Foeniculum vulgare (Fennel), Trachyspermum ammi (Ajwain), Carum carvi (Black Cumin), Ruta graveolens (Rue), Coccus lacca (Lac), Origanum vulgare (Marjoram), and Bura-e-Armani (Armenian Bole). It is hypothesized to exert its therapeutic effects through the synergistic action of its phytochemical constituents, which may improve lipid metabolism, act as digestive stimulants, and reduce fat accumulation. Clinical research, notably a Phase 2 trial conducted by Jamia Hamdard, has compared the efficacy of its traditional powder form against a compressed tablet formulation and standard statin therapy (atorvastatin) in patients with hyperlipidemia.
