Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Safotibant (FOV2304) is a small molecule bradykinin B1 receptor antagonist developed for the topical treatment of diabetic macular edema and other forms of macular edema. It was originally developed by Fovea Pharmaceuticals and later by Sanofi. The drug acts by selectively blocking the bradykinin B1 receptor, which is implicated in inflammation and increased vascular permeability in retinal diseases. Safotibant was investigated as an ophthalmic solution administered topically to the eye. Clinical trials included phase I and II studies assessing its safety and efficacy for center-involving clinically significant macular edema associated with diabetic retinopathy[3][5][7]. Development for this indication has been discontinued[5].
