SAGE 1-Step

SAGE 1-Step is a continuous, single-step culture medium developed by CooperSurgical (under the SAGE brand) for the in vitro development of human embryos. It is designed to support embryo growth from the zygote stage through to the blastocyst stage (Day 5-7) without the need for sequential media changes. This "one-step" approach aims to maintain a stable environment, minimizing fluctuations in pH and temperature and reducing the mechanical stress associated with embryo handling. The medium is typically supplemented with Human Albumin Solution (HAS) to provide necessary proteins. In clinical trials, such as those sponsored by the European Hospital, SAGE 1-Step has been compared to sequential media systems to evaluate its impact on clinical pregnancy rates and embryo quality, particularly in patients with poor prognosis or severe male infertility.
