Sage extract is derived from the leaves of *Salvia officinalis* and has been used in traditional medicine for its antimicrobial, antidiabetic, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and cognitive-enhancing effects. The active constituents include essential oils (such as camphor and thujone), phenolic acids (like rosmarinic acid), and flavonoids. Mechanistically, it acts as an antioxidant by reducing oxidative stress; inhibits acetylcholinesterase to enhance cholinergic function (potentially improving memory and cognition); modulates inflammation; influences reproductive hormones by increasing estradiol levels; and may modulate autophagy. Sage extract has been investigated for use in Alzheimer's disease (for cognitive improvement), herpes labialis (topical application), vasomotor symptoms of menopause (due to estrogenic effects), cancer prevention or adjunctive therapy (antitumor activity *in vitro*), hyperlipidemia management and general anti-infective purposes. However clinical evidence supporting these uses is limited[2][4][5][6].
